Fleets in Charge conference shows Volteras well placed to manage data collection and translation for the fleet and remarketing industries

Volteras recently sponsored the annual BVRLA Fleets in Charge event at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in London where rental and leasing companies, OEMs and fleet suppliers came together to discuss the current challenges and opportunities in the vehicle fleet sector.

One of the big conversations being discussed on the day was Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery State of Health (SoH) and its impact on fleet residual values, warranty claims and the overall acceptance of EVs in the automotive remarketing and aftersales ecosystem.

The panel discussed Battery SoH certification and how if a vehicle battery is tested and its % power recorded and certified prior to it being sold it provides greater trust to dealers and consumers when buying a used EV.

The results of our own research on Tesla Model 3 models of a similar age and mileage profile over a period of six months confirmed this finding with upticks in four key areas when cars were auctioned online with a Volteras SOH certificate compared with those without one.

Certified Teslas received:

• 20% more advert views prior to the online auction
• gained 34% more unique advert views
• received 10% more bids and
• 4% more unique bidders

Overall certification increased trust with buyers leading to a faster used EV sale.

Another panel discussion was around new GTR No22 legislation which is a UN agreement that standardises battery health, durability, and testing for EVs. The battery performance standards are already included in the UK's Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate so in the future expect built-in vehicle monitors that track a battery’s usable energy and original driving range.

Minimum Performance Requirements establish standardised thresholds for how much battery capacity and driving range an EV should retain as it ages. If a vehicle's battery degrades below 70% of its original capacity within that warranty period, the manufacturer is required to replace it which joins SoH certification in providing additional security for current and future EV owners.

Overall, a great conference with some real issues being discussed and while more questions were generated than answers Volteras is well place at the heart of the fleet and remarketing industry currently. The IET conference venue chosen by the BVRLA was a perfect reminder of how technology is going to support these industries in the future as it celebrated the life and achievements of Alan Turing who back in 1950 investigated the concept of Artificial Intelligence and attempted to define a standard for machine intelligence.

Over 75 years later the AI explosion has taken place and is at the heart of future Volteras plans to help companies to analyse their fleet data collected in our connected data platform.
